Computers are becoming as necessary as food and water for human beings. However, to understand these gizmos, you should know that computers serve different purposes, thus are divided into types. Here are the basic types:
Supercomputers
They are the most complex computers around. These fast and advanced computers are capable of almost any type of complicated calculations. They are capable of handling intricate procedures like quantum physics.
Mainframe Computers
They are also called central processors because they process data centrally. Thus, user terminals are called dumb terminals because they don’t posses their own processing systems. These computers are used in places where processing needs to be done in bulk such as banks.
Workstations
These are intended for use in complex procedures involving some difficult calculations such as mathematical calculations meant for professional use. They are fast computer which allow one user at a time. Their features include fast microprocessors, larger RAM, and high speed graphics adapters.
Personal Computer
A PC is also a single user computer which is designed for light or recreational uses. It is also called a microcomputer because it employs microprocessor technologies. A PC can also be used in businesses for tasks like word processing and database management applications.
Microcontroller
These are mini computers don’t provide any interference for the user to communicate with the processer. A microcontroller handles storing data as its processor has low memory and program length. However, it can be integrated with other processors to achieve complex functionality.
Server
It’s similar to mainframe computers because all the computers were connected to a central computer. Yet here users can do their own processing. A server is a centralized computer that collects data and programs from all users.
So, there you have them, the six types of computers you will encounter.
