The Basics of Computer Hardware

by on August 16, 2010

Talking about computer hardware seems too boring, but these are times in which we are surrounded by gadgets and tech tools. Hardware seems to have an unavoidable buzz in this context. For all those people who are new to the world of computer hardware, little basics on computer hardware can be really helpful. It may interest you to know that there exists an analogy between computer hardware and the human body.

The Basics of Computer Hardware

Let’s begin with the processor, which is commonly referred to as the brain of the computer. This is the hardware component that tells the rest of the system what to do just like our brain. Other hardware and software components are futile without the CPU, just like your body would be without a brain.

Next is the Random Access Memory, which is popularly known as the RAM. This part is just like the hands of the computer, not in the apparent sense but functionally. The RAM can carry out every function that you have to perform, thus the more RAM you have, the more processes you can run at a time.

The CD ROM, CDRW, DVDROM are the external drives, which can be compared to the feet. They reside on the hard drive so that they can remain connected to the main system. With these drives, you can go to places where your mind and hands can’t go.

The thing that powers your computer is the heart, and we all know it as the power supply. The fascinating bit is that it also comprises of arteries or the power cables inside your computer. The power supply unit powers all devices and keeps them running.

This is an analogy which is meant for all those beginners out there. Though technical minds may find it weird, but this comparison is factually true.
