Computer viruses are deceptive, malicious, and always changing. When you get a virus on your computer, it can just completely ruin your day. If you believe that your computer has become infected with a virus, the only truly safe game plan is to use a quality antivirus program, like Avast Antivirus, McAfee Antivirus, or Norton Antivirus. Here are the steps that you should follow to remove the virus from you computer:

1. As soon as your computer starts to behave strangely, and you suspect that it may have a virus, remove the infected computer from any networks that it may be connected to, and also from the internet. This will ensure that you do not accidentally infect other computers with the virus. If you are not sure how to disconnect from the network, unplug the network cable if you have to.

2. If your computer has virus-scanning (antivirus) software already installed, run the virus scan.

3. If you do not already have virus scanning software on your computer, you will need to get some. If you are unable to obtain appropriate virus cleaning software from the network administrator, or download some from a computer that has not been infected, it can be mail-ordered from a retailer, or purchased from a local office supply store.

4. Start the computer (with it still disconnected from the network) and follow the instructions that came with the antivirus software.

5. Continue running the software until the virus-scan comes up clean, meaning no viruses were detected.

6. It is now safe to reconnect your computer to the internet. Check with the antivirus software’s publisher online to make sure that you have the most up-to-date version of the software. Since viruses are continuously changing, so are antivirus programs. If you find that there are new updates, install them now.

7. After you have installed the updates for the antivirus software, run the scan again until the virus-scan comes up clean.

From this point on, you should leave the antivirus software on your computer and actively running all of the time. Nearly all antivirus software alerts you when it picks up the presence of a virus before it is able to cause any damage. Once you have been informed that a virus has been detected, follow the screen prompts given by the antivirus software. This should protect your computer from infection by the virus, but if you want to make absolutely sure, simply tell the program to scan your computer. Once the scan is done, and says that there were no viruses detected, your computer is virus free!

While consumers are worried about their identity being stolen, corporations are concerned about unauthorized access to private company data.

Since technology put people in this mess, it has provided a solution for it: Bio-Identity.

Bio-Identity is based on the principles of Biometrics, a science which recognizes people based on their traits. The prior has become applicable to all industries, and helps eliminate fraud, enable high-speed verification and allow only one person per account.

Bio-identification systems can be divided into two main types: visual and electronic. Visual bio-identification methods include the use of photographs, signatures and/or finger or thumb prints on identity cards.

On other hand, Electronic bio-identification systems include digitized voice, hand print, finger/thumb print, or retinal (eye) images. Using these systems, digital records of a person’s voice or physical features are stored on a disk or smartcard. They are then compared to the actual features of the person using some form of electronic reader.

Fingerprint biometrics offers people with a strong authentication system alternative, while reducing the operating costs associated with managing passwords and tokens. Users prefer replacing passwords with Fingerprint IDs to avoid the headaches of remembering passwords. Even if you have a clone somewhere, your fingerprints won’t match because the latter are linked with the pattern of nerve growth and not genetics.

Though Fingerprint authentication is one of the most popular techniques for identification, other types of Bio-Identity features like smart cards with voice-recognition features, DNA Scans, Retinal and Facial scanners are available as well. System manufacturers, banks, and online merchants are all beginning to recognize the advantages of biometric technology thus quite soon expect to see them around a lot.

The minute your computer starts acting weird, you will be suspecting a virus to be the culprit. However, a virus isn’t the only dangerous malware around. Aside from viruses, worms and Trojans can also cause your PC to go haywire. If you haven’t had a good introduction to these unwanted cyber guests, the following lines will do the trick.

A computer virus is a small program which attaches itself to a file or program. It then replicates itself on all the files of that PC before spreading to others through flash disks and even email. Sometimes a virus can be annoying rather than harmful so, it won’t destruct your files (although the same may not apply to your nerves). At other times, however, it can infect your computer badly.

A worm is quite similar to a virus as it can spread easily. However, doesn’t require your involvement as it can send itself. If you’re wondering about whether a worm or a virus is causing mayhem on your PC, one way of identifying worms is by finding out if your system’s memory or network bandwidth is being used excessively. You may also be having problems with connecting to your network server because of this.

As for a Trojan, it works on the same methodology of the Trojan Horse. At first it will appear as a legitimate, useful program. However, once you install it, it can either annoy you so much or cause the loss of data. In addition, a Trojan will create a backdoor on your PC so that hackers and intruders can access your system and data. Trojans can be used to steel financial information, and even aid in identity theft. Unlike the other two, Trojans do not replicate, period.

So, rather than blame every mishap on a virus, you now know that there are more suspects to point your finger at.
